I look to you in the thick of things
smothered in weeds, with barbs persistently latched to my skin. My vision smeared by grit and webs, I look to you in the thick of things and you, my thorn-crowned king, see through to me. You, my thorn-crowned king, weep true with me. And with surgeon's care, begin to sever the weeds. You attend to every scratch and wound with gentleness and discernment. You pull the poison from my veins and wash my wounds with your blood. You give your blood for me with no condition. Oh thorn-crowned king, you offer absolution and you oh so carefully bind every wound then give them air to breathe and you walk with me as I test out my new blood. You clear my eyes and delight in my delight in seeing you. I am free now from the weeds. Free only because of you, my thorn-crowned king, who met me in the thick of things dear sovereign gardener.
