Experience | Baylor University Education LLC & Act Locally Waco
Office Assistant for Baylor University Education Living-Learning Center
For five weeks in the 2016 spring semester, I worked as an office assistant for Baylor's Education Living-Learning Center. In this position I formatted and drafted the end of the year report, developed a resident engagement point system, edited and consolidated LLC advisor and leadership council manuals, drafted a letter to the LLC, designed flyers for programs and events, created layouts for a community covenant display, updated the community calendar, and created themes for the weekly coffee house event.
Copyeditor Intern for Act Locally Waco
Professional Writing students at Baylor have to opportunity to complete the course English 4377 - Internship in Professional Writing prior to graduation. Students are required to find and secure an internship with a local organization to develop writing skills and gain non-academic writing experiences. In an effort to break out of the "Baylor bubble," I pursued an internship with Act Locally Waco, where I would be responsible for maintaining a community newsletter and website. As a copyeditor intern, I analyzed and synthesized information from emails and websites, met weekly deadlines, followed a style guide, maintained a Wordpress site, and took, edited, and published photos on Facebook at www.actlocallywaco.org.

Experience | Laity Lodge Family & Youth Camps
Laity Lodge Family Camp
For five weeks during the summer 2016 I served as a Work Crew Boss at Laity Lodge Family Camp in the Texas Hill Country. In this position, I co-led twenty high school volunteers as they set up, cleaned, and reset the dining hall for every meal, picked up and removed trash from the camp grounds, prepared the camp vehicles for activities, and completed a variety of other jobs to help maintain general Family Camp programming. In 2015, I served as Kids' Club Assistant Director where I helped provide a safe and joyous environment for children ages five and under to play, eat, learn about Scripture, create, and rest during morning devotionals and afternoon activity times. The summer of 2014 and on several weekends each semester, I worked and served families with "outrageous hospitality" in the role of Counselor. In my role as a counselor, I had the opportunity to build relationships with families through serving them at mealtimes, making conversation, and facilitating activities. My sister, Martha, brought me into the camp family when I was a senior in high school, and last summer we got to work together for the entirety of the summer sessions. You can read an interview about our experiences working together that was published on the Family Camp blog.
Laity Lodge Youth Camp
My first summer experience in the canyon was at Laity Lodge Youth Camp in 2013 when I served as a Canyon Club Assistant. In this position I assisted in the care of camp directors’ children, ages two to twelve, and helped my team by leading devotional times, supervising crafts, serving snacks, monitoring swimming activities, and developing relationships with the children and parents.

Extracurriculars | Acts Church, Ampersand Society, & Campus Kitchens
Acts Church Lifegroup Leader
Upon joining the Acts community my freshman year, I have had the joy of engaging in fellowship and friendship with other students through attending lifegroups. Last spring, I began the process of training and learning how to become a leader of a fruitful and well-run lifegroup, and in the fall I began leading a new all-girls lifegroup.
Ampersand Society
This group is led by Dean Elizabeth Vardaman and Dr. Kirsten Escobar, and it is comprised of a select group of students from within the College of Arts & Sciences. We hold monthly meetings to discuss the opportunities available to us to make the most out of our undergraduate years by getting involved and preparing to enter life after graduation.
Campus Kitchens Delivery Volunteer (2014-2015)
Every week I got to play a small part in Baylor's Campus Kitchens organization, which does a substantial amount of work to serve the hungry in Waco through growing, cooking, transporting, and donating food. I transported meals prepared by the cooking volunteers (meals which include vegetables from the gardening group) from Penland Crossroads to Waco Family Abuse Center.
